The Hudson Valley String Quartet performs an exuberant program of well-known and rare works by Czech composers. The program includes Bedrich Smetana’s Quartet #1, “From my Life,” his musical autobiography and Hans Krasa’s Theme and Variations for string quartet, which conjures up sounds of Jazz and the second Viennese School. The program concludes with two movements of Antonin Dvorak’s String Quartet #12, “The American.” Dvorak uses the bird song, spirituals and folksongs of small town Iowa in the 1890’s as melodic inspiration for this joyful, energetic work.
